You are persistent, especially when you really want something! Am I right?
What comes to mind when I ask what you last sought after and pursued with persistence until you succeeded?
I once had a writing coach say if we hadn’t written what we planned, then we probably didn’t really want to or were not called to write it in the first place! I was surprised at my strong reaction to her words! I diligently considered if what I had planned to write was assigned to me from the Lord or not. If not, it needed to be set aside so I could focus on His true calling on my life as a writer. If yes, I needed to buckle down and be persistent until the writing was complete!
We’re awaiting (somewhat patiently) the birth of our 11th grandchild; our 8th grandorable daughter! I just wrote a blog about the obedience of the Hebrew Midwives that led to great influence upon the Isrealite nation, the Egyptian nation, and subsequently upon our world.
Read here: A WOMAN OF INFLUENCE!
You are a woman of Influence.
Then I thought of Hannah and all those who are mothers and grandmothers, and/or may not have born children of their own, but are surrogate mothers of sorts! What would we do without them? They are faith-FULL! They are patient and persistent in their care.
A Woman of Persistence – Does NOT Give Up!
Be persistent in your faith and petitions to God. In most cases, He has given you the desires of His/your heart and being filled with faith, He expects you to obediently pursue those desires and to bring Him glory and honor every step of the way.
Consider Hannah in 1 Samuel who was so persistent in her faith-filled prayer for a son that God granted her desire and then some! (1 Samuel 2:21 – she had other children) She was persistent and faithful.
In her day, a barren woman was scorned, ridiculed, even mocked. In her distress, instead of attacking her mocker, she cried out to God from her great sorrow and loss, praying earnestly, even begging for a son. Her prayer was sacrificial, sincere, and specific. Her prayer changed the course of her life, her son Samuel’s life, the Priest Eli’s life, and the life of the entire nation!
1 Samuel 1 English Standard Version (ESV)The Birth of Samuel
1 There was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill country of Ephraim whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephrathite. 2 He had two wives. The name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other, Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Now this man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests of the Lord. 4 On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. 5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb.[a] 6 And her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. 7 So it went on year by year. As often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. 8 And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”
9 After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the Lord. 10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
12 As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman. 14 And Eli said to her, “How long will you go on being drunk? Put your wine away from you.” 15 But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the Lord. 16 Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.” 17 Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.” 18 And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
19 They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. 20 And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the Lord.”[b]
Samuel Given to the Lord
21 The man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and to pay his vow. 22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “As soon as the child is weaned, I will bring him, so that he may appear in the presence of the Lord and dwell there forever.” 23 Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems best to you; wait until you have weaned him; only, may the Lord establish his word.” So the woman remained and nursed her son until she weaned him. 24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull,[c] an ephah[d] of flour, and a skin of wine, and she brought him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh. And the child was young. 25 Then they slaughtered the bull, and they brought the child to Eli. 26 And she said, “Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord. 27 For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. 28 Therefore I have lent him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.”
And he worshiped the Lord there.

A Woman of Persistence Can Impact the World!
Your life and ministry/business can influence a nation!
Your persistence in your life and entrepreneur endeavors can impact the world!
Honestly, I can’t think that broadly most of the time.
I’m content to try to wrap my heart around and try to influence and persistently work to impact just 1 person at a time!
But then I remember that Hannah’s persistent prayer changed the course of her life, the lives of her family, and the life of her world and yours and mine! God used her son Samuel as a powerful prophet during the lifetime of King David and we read about him today. God used King David to lead the nation and to complete the lineage of Christ and today we are Saved!
God delights in the faith and persistence of His people!
Be a Woman of Persistence!
Homework/Handout:
Re-Write Hannah’s Prayer as your own!
1 Samuel 2 English Standard Version (ESV)Hannah’s Prayer
2 1 And Hannah prayed and said,
“My heart exults in the Lord;
my horn is exalted in the Lord.
My mouth derides my enemies,
because I rejoice in your salvation.
2
“There is none holy like the Lord:
for there is none besides you;
there is no rock like our God.
3
Talk no more so very proudly,
let not arrogance come from your mouth;
for the Lord is a God of knowledge,
and by him actions are weighed.
4
The bows of the mighty are broken,
but the feeble bind on strength.
5
Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread,
but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger.
The barren has borne seven,
but she who has many children is forlorn.
6
The Lord kills and brings to life;
he brings down to Sheol and raises up.
7
The Lord makes poor and makes rich;
he brings low and he exalts.
8
He raises up the poor from the dust;
he lifts the needy from the ash heap
to make them sit with princes
and inherit a seat of honor.
For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
and on them he has set the world.
9
“He will guard the feet of his faithful ones,
but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness,
for not by might shall a man prevail.
10
The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces;
against them he will thunder in heaven.
The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;
he will give strength to his king
and exalt the horn of his anointed.”

You are a woman of influence!
As a leader, you are never not influencing someone.
You are never not leading someone.
Pardon the double negatives, but it’s true.
Are you influencing and leading well or poorly?
As a Woman of Influence – You Can Change the Course of History!
You are often faced with a chance to change the course of history as you lead and influence others. Believe it or not!
“… More often than not, it’s men and women with no power and little social standing who most significantly reshape this world.”
-John Maxwell, NKJV, Maxwell Leadership Bible, e-book. Thomas Nelson. Kindle edition.
Consider the story of Shiphrah and Puah, Hebrew midwives who feared God and refused to obey the wicked command of the king of Egypt who wanted them to murder all Hebrew male newborns as the nation grew.
They were, in the grand scheme of society, powerless and despised and disadvantaged. They were also very brave and chose to do the right thing.
Exodus 1:15-20
15 Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, 16 “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” 17 But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. 18 So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?” 19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” 20 So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. 22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.”
We have four sons and two daughters. Our 11th grandchild will be born soon! One of our daughters is a midwife and family nurse practitioner. She has a T-shirt that says
Before Moses delivered Israel;
Shiphrah and Puah delivered Moses!
Other T-shirts related to midwives online say
“Midwifery, as old as the human race.”
“The midwives refused to obey.”
“Shiphrah and Puah: the courage to say “and.” The ways of passion and courage.”
Shiphrah and Puah continued to deliver healthy male Hebrews, they risked their lives to protect the children that God had placed in their care; they disobeyed the ruler of Egypt to obey the God they feared. God showed them kindness by blessing them with families of their own who probably took part in the great exodus from Egypt.
They helped to spare the life of Moses – Israel’s God-ordained deliverer.
They protected the line of Abraham through which Jesus Christ would come, fulfilling God‘s plan for the Hebrews and for all mankind. For you and me!
I admire anyone who is willing to lead well and positively influence another, especially a helpless and impressionable child. But I rarely think that my love of and care for my children and grandorables will change the course of history! And yet, someone(s) changed the course of history for me! And for you! And not all of those influencers were leaders of nations, I bet!
A Woman of Influence – An Entrepreneur Called By God
To me that’s what entrepreneurship is all about – leading and influencing in a way that brings God glory and honor and draws others to Jesus Christ and encourages and inspires their growth in business and ministry!
Dear Christian entrepreneur,
I’m praying that you lead others well.
I am praying that you influence others in a way that brings glory and honor to God.
You do it every day!
Have you ever heard that song: Thank You For Giving to the Lord?
Thank You For Giving To The Lord
https://bit.ly/2TcQbRI
Ray Boltz
Thank You
I dreamed I went to heaven
And you were there with me
We walked upon the streets of gold
Beside the crystal sea
We heard the angels singing
Then someone called your name
You turned and saw this young man
And he was smiling as he came
And he said friend you may not know me now
And then he said but wait
You used to teach my Sunday School
When I was only eight
And every week you would say a prayer
Before the class would start
And one day when you said that prayer
I asked Jesus in my heart
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am a life that was changed
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am so glad you gave
Then another man stood before you
And said remember the time
A missionary came to your church
And his pictures made you cry
You didn’t have much money
But you gave it anyway
Jesus took the gift you gave
And that’s why I’m here today
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am a life that was changed
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am so glad you gave
One by one they came
Far as the eyes could see
Each life somehow touched
By your generosity
Little things that you had done
Sacrifices made
Unnoticed on the earth
In heaven now proclaimed
And I know that up in heaven
You’re not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure
There were tears in your eyes
As Jesus took your hand
And you stood before the Lord
He said, my child look around you
For great is your reward
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am a life that was changed
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am so glad you gave
I am so glad you gave

You never know what gentle touch or act of kindness or matter of influence and leadership might change a person’s life, and thus change the course of history!
Take care of yourself.
You are NO heavenly good if you aren’t functioning well on earth!
Resolve each day to serve the Lord as you are His willing vessel to influence and lead others well!
Look forward to the day when He will say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25
Keep influencing!

Strong Leadership Leads to LIFE!
If strong leadership leads to LIFE and GROWTH, then lack of strong leadership leads to death and stagnation. Are you a strong leader who contributes to and enhances life? Have you surrounded yourself with strong leaders who contribute to and enhance life? How do you do that?
Strong Leadership Leads to LIFE, not death!
In his Leadership Bible, John Maxwell quotes Church expert and statistician George Barna who asserts that “…the American church is dying due to lack of strong leadership… Nothing is more important than leadership.“ That’s a sobering thought! And I started wondering if it doesn’t also apply to the death and stagnation of other ministries, our ministries, and our businesses as entrepreneurs. If I’m honest, I can admit to you that one of my biggest fears is that I will remain stuck, or stagnant, and may not make a difference in the lives of other entrepreneurs as I grow in my entrepreneurial endeavors! It’s why I do what I do as the president of Karen Bourg Companies (http://karenbourg.com ), the {Inter} National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs, and the International Christian Mompreneur Network (http://nacwe.org ).
Strong Leadership Leads to LIFE – a Life with Passion!
I looked up LIFE in the thesaurus and found the following words – verve, vivacity, animation, energy, excitement, soul, kick, get-up-and-go, sparkle! I LOVE these words! I would also add GROWTH and PLUCK! These words add life and spark to my heart! They encourage me to live a life of passion as one being led, and as a leader.
I want to follow God‘s vision with passion! So do you! I want to follow the desires and passions that God has given me and His vision in the following areas:
B.E.L.I.E.F.S.:
B stands for Body:
E is for Emotion:
L is for Livelihood:
I is for Intellect:
E is for Environment:
F is for Family and Friends:
S is for Spiritual:
Take a moment to decide how you want to grow and follow the desires and passions that God has given you in these areas. What did you come up with? Share them with us here.
If you need extra help walking through and discovering these desires, download our free B.E.L.I.E.F.S. Assessment here:

Strong Leadership Leads to LIFE and productivity, not stagnation!
In all of my programs and masterminds throughout the year, and of course, in my individual coaching experiences, I focus on growth. I want to put God first in my life in every area or dimension of wellness. I want to serve others well as he Has called me. I want to hear Him say, “well done, good and faithful servant!” And it’s not selfish to understand that I need to attend to my own personal growth and take care of myself or I won’t be able to take care of or lead others. How do you do that?
- Pray that God will build a hedge of protection around you and around those who lead you and around those whom you lead.
- Ask Him to continually pour into your life so that you grow to be the leader He has called you to be.
- Be intentional about growth as an individual and as a leader of others.
- Put it on your calendar! Hmmm… Have you heard me say this before?!
- Appoint strategic blocks of time in your day and in your week where you focus on growing in the Lord, growing as an entrepreneur, and growing as a leader.
- Surround yourself with people who lead by God’s design.

Lord,
I pray for every entrepreneur/minister who will read these words, that they will be encouraged to make plans and allow You to establish their steps, that they will strive to be leaders who speak of You and Your Word and whose lives manifest Your presence and Your power as they imitate the faith of those who have gone before us. May we grow as leaders who set an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Keep us growing, GROWing, GROWING-unstuck, not stagnant!
AMEN!
The verses referred to in this prayer are Proverbs 16:9, Hebrews 13:7, and first Timothy 4:12 and were referred to in the first blog on leadership. Link to this blog here and link to it at the bottom of this second blog after the signature.
Strong Leadership Leads to LIFE, and Life Means Growth!
As a NACWE group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/NACWEFreedom/ ), we spent 3 months learning to GROW as individuals and entrepreneurs and to TELL others about our offers (NACWE Classroom April, May, June 2019). SO MUCH FUN!
We learned that:
- growth doesn’t just happen-you have to be intentional about it,
- you have to know and be aware of who you are before you will experience significant growth,
- you must see value in yourself and add value to yourself before you can add value to others,
- it’s important to pause and reflect along the way and allow growth to catch up with you,
- motivation gets you going and discipline keeps you growing,
- it’s your responsibility to create an environment within which growth thrives,
- you have to develop strategies to maximize growth,
- bad experiences, when managed well, can lead to great growth,
- your character growth determines the height of your personal growth,
- growth stops when you lose the tension between where you are and where you could be,
- you have to trade off some things to be able to receive things that help you grow,
- growth is stimulated by asking why,
- you have to find examples to follow because it’s hard to improve when you have no one but yourself to follow,
- growth always expands your capacity, and
- growing yourself enables you to grow others!

Learning Leadership from the Lord
The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.
Proverbs 16:9
Learning Leadership from the Lord is Crucial
Are you a leader?
You are a leader! You are leading someone by God’s design!
Maybe we could say, “You are never NOT leading!”
Now, where do you go to learn about leadership?
I want my leadership to be established by the Lord, don’t you!
So, let’s go to The LEADER together!
Learning Leadership from the Lord has been a wonderful journey for me!
Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God.
Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
Hebrews 13:7
As an entrepreneur for the last 25 years, I’ve spent a lot of time searching out people from whom to learn leadership skills.
- The John Maxwell Team-most recently! This is one of the greatest steps I’ve taken! Wish I hadn’t waited till now!
- The Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur group (also recently)!
- Dozens of awesome coaches and mentors and great examples, who “… …set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12, and
- The PACKED classroom vault of my own organization – The {Inter} National Association of Christian Women Entrepreneurs [NACWE.org]/Mompreneurs
The list is long!
Learning Leadership from the Lord and Paul the Apostle
Most recently I decided that I would like to read through all the books of the Bible written by Paul chronologically!
I decided to read through those books of the Bible in John Maxwell‘s Leadership Bible!
I’ll be sharing things I learn as I grow because that’s what I do! I hope you do too!
Share what the Lord is teaching you with those you love and lead!
Learning Leadership from the Lord, the LEADER!
Do you go to the Bible for leadership lessons? It’s considered the greatest book ever written and John Maxwell believes it is the greatest book on leadership ever written! The Lord, our Leader, has been teaching us about leadership for thousands of years. Have we been listening?
Learning Leadership from the Lord
Will I ever learn? The best source, the greatest tool for life and livelihood is the Bible! If I will seek Him, He will change my life and the course of my development as a leader. Out of it, I can draw leadership principles that have been woven into it by God who Leads us! I’ll look at other sources, and I’ll listen to those He has placed in my life, but I desire to focus on Him First!
Learning Leadership from the Lord Together
Join me in taking these steps to being a godly leader:
- Dive into God‘s Word every day.
- Put it on your calendar! If I don’t block the time off for the most important time – time spent being quiet, in prayer, and seeking the Lord, the time that I have blocked off for other tasks is in vain!
- Take an extra step and journal through what He is teaching you as you spend time with Him.

Learning Leadership from the Lord – LEAD ON!
Use your Leadership gifts or ‘giftedness’ wisely:
Gifts of Grace – Romans 12
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Blessings,
