5 Steps to Build Your Business God’s Way

5 Steps to Build Your Business God’s Way

Happy New Year!

“True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done, the zest of creating things new.”
– Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Speaking of new things:

Are you doing what I’m doing as you build your business?

Are you grateful this New Year for a chance to begin again, plan ahead, reach new heights, and think outside the box in your business as an entrepreneur?

Are you getting ready to launch new services and products?

Creation

I’ve been reading through the Bible in a chronological order (one of my many resolves for the New Year!). I’ve been reading about Creation and several things have struck me that I think apply to us as we design new programs and products in our organizations.

God created the world in six days. I never thought of it this way, but my ESV Bible commentary points out that the creation progressed over triads of days:

ONE

o   Day 1 God created light (v.3) and

o   Day 4 God created the greater light (sun), lesser light (moon), and stars (v.14)

TWO

o   Day 2 God created Heaven – separated the water of the sky and the water of the seas (v.6) and

o   Day 5 God crated living creatures above the earth (fowl) and in the sea (fish) (v.21)

THREE

o   Day 3 God created the land (Earth) & vegetation, Seas, vegetation (v9-11)

o   Day 6 God created the beasts (animals) of the earth, and man in His likeness with dominions and a command to be fruitful and multiply (v.24-30)

 “Six Days of Creation”

Use the Lord’s 5-point pattern of design in and build your business for success for the new year!

First God gave the earth form by separating the light of day from the darkness of night, the sea below from the clouds above, and the dry land with vegetation from the sea.

Second He filled these realms.

Heavenly Design Patterns

There was a pattern He followed each “day”:

  1. an announcement “God said”;
  2. a command “Let there be”;
  3. a report “And it was so”;
  4. an evaluation “It was good”; and
  5. a chronological framework “The first day”.

How can we use this same pattern following the design of the Sovereign Lord in our own businesses?

How can you build your business the same way God would, the way He built your world?

Here are Five Inspired Steps toward Successful Entrepreneurship:

Entrepreneurial Design Patterns

1.MAKE A DECISION

– There was an announcement. “God said…” He created.

The Hebrew word for create is bara and one commentary I found said that this word is a word reserved for God’s creative activity alone. He created the universe out of nothing and He orders everything in a progressive manner.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

How should we respond?

Psalm 148:5 says “Let them praise the name of the Lord! For He commanded and they were created.”

I’m dependent on God, for He creates and sustains all that is by the power of His own being. I also must follow patterns and create and multiply spiritually and encourage others to do the same. Who has encouraged you? Are you creating programs and products to build your business that honor God and that benefit and encourage others?

2. ANNOUNCE THE DECISION

– There was a command. God said, “Let there be.”

Not only do we need to embrace and nurture our creativity; we need not worry about the details before we move forward. If you’re like me and you wait until everything is 100% prepared in your own mind before moving forward, there will not be a moving forward! Go ahead and take action throughout the whole process of creating. Take intentional action!

3.LAUNCH WITH CONFIDENCE

– There was a report. God said, “And it was so.”

Move forward believing that God led you to this design and that there are others who will benefit from it!  Launch!  Announce your new or renewed services and products!

4.TEST OR EVALUATE WITH TRUSTED AND APPROPRIATE CUSTOMERS

– There was an evaluation. God said, “It was good.”

Make appropriate changes as you go. Listen to the feedback you receive and make adjustments and add programs according to the needs expressed by your audience.

5.ADD TO YOUR CREATION

– There was a chronological framework. God said, “The first day.” Hear the implied next day(s)!

As each program succeeds, add new steps to it based on the needs of your audience. Build your business! Re-purpose the information gleaned in this new project in many different ways. Build upon it and create a marketable program, compile it into a book, and/or create a series of videos or audiobook from this creative foundation!

Do you need help jump-starting new designs this year?

Do you need help to build your business using this divine design?

I’m here to help! Reach out to me and we can discuss how you can reach new levels of success worth celebrating!

Blessings,

Three Steps to Clear Communication When You Are Angry

Three Steps to Clear Communication When You Are Angry

Anger is inevitable in the experience of life as a human and even as a Christian. Righteous anger is an emotion we know God Himself experiences in the Scriptures. As we are made in His image it stands to reason we will experience anger. It is a God given emotion. However, we don’t have to let anger control us. And we must exercise anger in healthy and appropriate ways. It is important to learn to communicate clearly and in a godly-honoring manner when angry.

Ephesians 4:26 reads, “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,”

Consider Anger as an Alarm System

It helps to look at anger as a warning system. Feeling angry is neither good nor bad. It is a way of knowing something isn’t quite right. Think of the alarm system on your house. When the alarm is activated and the beeping starts it is to warn you something is out of place. The beeping itself is not the culprit – it is not the primary problem. You must investigate to find out the root of the problem. So it is with anger – it is an alarm, a secondary emotion to alert you that something else is happening that needs investigation.

The Key to Communication When You’re Angry

The key to accurate and godly communication when you’re angry is being able to get to the root feeling. When your two year olds sprints toward a busy street, your reaction may be anger but the underlying emotion is fear. When you are angry, follow these step to understand your anger.

  1. Know your triggers. It helps to know what makes you feel angry and what your body feels like when it is angry. This knowledge reminds you to stop and think before speaking or acting. Knowing your triggers helps you determine the next step.
  2. Ask questions. Take a moment to ask yourself and God to help you figure out how you feel. (Jeremiah 33:3 reads, “Call to me and I will answer you,and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”) Some of those questions could be:
    • Do I feel afraid?
    • Do I feel disrespected?
    • Am I disappointed? Discouraged?
    • Am I tired or hungry?
    • Do I feel ignored?

3.  Once understood, courageously and wisely communicate regarding the underlying feeling instead of in anger. You can make personal feeling statements that reflect those feelings. For example:

  • I feel angry and disrespected when you don’t respond to me when we’re talking.
  • It makes me feel afraid when you don’t call to tell me you will be late because I worry about your safety.
  • I am tired and it makes me more impatient; let’s talk about this after I rest.

WHAT STEPS DO YOU TAKE BEFORE COMMUNICATING WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY?

It may take some practice and a little bit of trial and error to learn how to communicate appropriately when you are angry. However, the more often you practice it, the easier it will become. The ability to say what you need to say when you are angry is a skill that will positively impact every relationship in your life, from work to clients, from toddlers to teens to spouses. You don’t have to suppress your angry feelings. You can learn how to say what you mean in constructive and healthy ways.

When Discouraged – Get to the Heart of Courage!

When Discouraged – Get to the Heart of Courage!

Discouragement is not having courage.

Courage is not just about bravery or being fearless.

Brene Brown writes about courage being the conversation that comes from our heart. She says,

“Courage is a heart word. The root of the word courage is cor – the Latin word for heart. In one of its earliest forms, the word courage meant “To speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart.” Over time, this definition has changed, and today, we typically associate courage with heroic and brave deeds. But in my opinion, this definition fails to recognize the inner strength and level of commitment required for us to actually speak honestly and openly about who we are and about our experiences — good and bad. Speaking from our hearts is what I think of as “ordinary courage.”

Given the Latin root and the earliest definition of courage meaning to speak your mind be speaking from your heart, discouragement would be a stifling of that speech. Discouragement is not just about your mood it is a condition of your heart.

All of our heart matters should be taken straight to our Father God the keeper, healer and protector of our hearts. The following verses are for strengthening your heart in times of discouragement.

When Discouraged – Wait for the Lord

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Psalm 27:14

This is such a beautiful verse, especially in times when courage seems out of reach. Wait, take some time with Lord, wait for His direction. In the waiting, you receive strength and courage takes up your heart. It’s okay to wait and pray when discouragement is on you.

When Discouraged – Press On

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3: 13-14

I know when I deal with discouragement, I have a tendency to look at the failings of my past. I get mired in the “coulda, shoulda, woulda” and forget about the now. Focus on the things before you, as in right now, and remind yourself of purpose of it all. The purpose is always Christ. It is always the Kingdom of God. So let go of the past and move forward with courage and assurance that your heavenly Father will not forsake you.

When Discouraged – You are NOT Destroyed

“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;…”  2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Never have I met someone who hasn’t experienced nearly every hardship outlined in this verse. The key to all of it is understanding we are not destroyed. You may feel beat up by life circumstances, but you are NOT crushed. You are NOT desperate. You are NOT forsaken. You are NOT destroyed.

When Discouraged – Walk by Faith

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

You can’t always depend on what you see or feel as a barometer of where and how God is working in your life. We may be afflicted and perplexed and persecuted and struck down but GOD is working. Draw on your faith reserves. God is in love with you. He has overcome the world. He is working on your behalf whether you see it or not. Ask Him, He’ll show you.

When Discouraged – Do Not Grow Weary

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Everyone has times when they want to give up. Don’t. I know, easier said than done! Trust in the Word of the Lord, you will reap. Keep on keeping on and you will see the benefits of your good efforts come to pass.

When Discouraged – HE Will Deliver You

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.“ Psalm 34:17-19

This verse covers all the possible sources of discouragement and for each reminds you of the rescue available and provided by our Lord. He hears you when you cry out. He delivers you from your troubles. He heals broken hearts. He raises up the crushed in spirit. He lifts you out of everything which brings you down. He is your strength and courage.

When your heart is discouraged and you don’t feel you can tell your heart’s story, call on the Lord. Let your heart be encouraged by the promises of the Lord to rescue you, heal you and never leave you in despair.

When Discouraged – Please share any other verses you use to encourage your heart.

With most of the article written I found myself stuck and in dire need of a good opener.  I was completely frustrated and discouraged. Finally, I reached to my husband to help me write it and then it hit me. Somewhat ironically, this demonstrated one of the simplest ways to get over discouragement. Since discouragement can be a fixation on one thought pattern, or problem or situation, reaching out for help, even in the smallest way, can help you break the pattern and set your mind and actions in a healthier direction!

How To Get Motivated About Your Business

How To Get Motivated About Your Business

Dear Entrepreneur,

Where do you find motivation to begin and finish a task for your business? Do you find yourself wondering how to get motivated about your business?

I know I have, and I really want to know! Honestly, I want to understand because I’m lacking motivation in a few specific areas and I am becoming sick of it!

Love being an entrepreneur!

The other day, my Business Coach, Diane Cunningham, commented on Facebook –

Ummmm…… GoDaddy just favorited one of my tweets. Now that is rather nifty! I might just dance around the room and then go buy another domain. I love being an entrepreneur!!”

She’s hilarious! She’s on fire! She can show you how to get motivated about your business! She’s a cheerleader and I’m hiding under the bleachers. I want to be her – I want to “dance around the room” and “buy another domain” because I’ve persisted and reached some of these goals that I just can’t seem to find the driving force to complete!

I began to wonder how to find the motivation to finish some business projects – my PhD Dissertation, for one; unpacking and organizing the closet full of boxes at our new Counseling offices for another; there is a list. Can you relate to this?

I’ve prayed for inspiration and enthusiasm as if it is God’s responsibility to light a fire under me so that I will dutifully and thoroughly persevere. After all, He is Sovereign. He can do this! He turned the hearts and heads of the most unlikely of characters to bring about His Good Purposes (consider the rebuilding of the wall and city of Jerusalem as told in Ezra and Nehemiah)!

In the movie, Dances with Wolves, Lt. John Dunbar arrives at his post on the American Frontier ready to work diligently, only to find it abandoned with no explanation. He sets up camp, encounters his first Sioux Indians who come upon him while he’s bathing in the stream (totally exposed, totally unprepared), Sioux children try (unsuccessfully) to steal his horse, Sioux warriors try (unsuccessfully) to steal his horse (he has a really smart horse!), he tries (unsuccessfully) to defend himself and ends up with a concussion, and more.

Then we see him cleaning his uniform, polishing his brass and his boots, preparing to take action. Dunbar writes in his journal,

“I realize now that I have been wrong. All this time, I have been waiting. Waiting for what? For someone to find me? For Indians to take my horse? To see a buffalo? Since I have arrived at this post, I have been walking on eggs. It has become a bad habit and I am sick of it. [I LOVE THAT!] Tomorrow morning, I will ride out to the Indians. I do not know the outcome or the wisdom of this thinking, but I have become a target and a target makes a poor impression. I am through waiting.”

How to Get Motivated About Your Business:

Instead of asking God to provoke me toward motivation and business success, I began to seek Him in His Word (ah, what a novel idea!) and remembered 4 important things:

  1. PURPOSE: My primary purpose in life has to be to bring Him glory and honor. My sense of motivation or inspiration comes from God, not from the things of the world. David spoke of his motivation: “I desire to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8).
  2. MOTIVATION is really a matter of obedience for me! Jesus was concerned with pleasing His Father; He always did the Father’s will, motivated by pleasing Him through obedience (John 8:29). His obedience extended all the way to the cross where He humbled Himself and “became obedient unto death” (Philippians 2:8). My motivation should be the same as His—the obedience by which I prove I am truly His. “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
  3. TRIALS PRODUCE STEADFASTNESS– According to James (Chapter 1), I must ask for wisdom as trials like this can produce steadfastness so that we may be “perfect and complete”; resoluteness so I can finish a task (even an undesirable task!). I’m responsible to communicate joy, even in the midst of trials.
  4. JUST DO IT– So I have to just get up and do the next right thing with determination, dutifully, unwaveringly, and loyally! James says this will lead to righteousness, salvation, blessings!

SO, I’ve blocked off specific times this month to work on the “blessed” Dissertation and I’ve called in the troops for help with the office closet full of unpacked boxes!

Now, how do you get motivated about YOUR business?

Just follow these 4 steps on how to find motivation about you business and do the next right thing! And may you be BLESSED!

It is Well, When It is NOT Well!

It is Well, When It is NOT Well!

Today in our webinar, our last Tuesday’s session on the theme of spiritual wellness, we were supposed to hear from Dr. Tony Robinson. Her title was “The Evexia Life.”

Any title using a Greek root word intrigues me. I’ve always been in love with the etymology of words, especially words from God’s Word!

When I looked the word up online, I found, “The name Evexia comes from the Greek word meaning ‘well-being’.”

Perfect!

Anytime I get to hear from or be prayed over by Dr. Tony, I get so excited. I’m looking forward to getting to know her better, and I’m so grateful that God orchestrated our paths would cross in 2019!

We will reschedule her presentation as she has reached out to me in distress and unable to be with us. February is her and her husband’s anniversary month. Sadly, he died four years ago on February 25th – today. So, that day has crept up on her like a ravenous lion, as you and I can imagine.

Please join me in “praying her through” this difficult day.

Here is my response to her:

Oh my goodness!

Dear Dr. Tony,

I totally understand and forgive you.

Tears come to my eyes and my heart aches for you. My husband Tim died a lot longer than four years ago after a four-year battle with three different cancers leaving me with children ages seven, six, and four years old. We’ve come a long way since then, but the sting of that loss will never fully disappear.

What a beautiful reminder

  • to stop everything as you are trying to do by not being online on this special day,

  • to reach out to Him/cry out to Him as you are doing and I will do with you on your behalf all day long, and
  • to seek the comfort of His people as you have been able to be with Shae!

Know that you are covered in prayer today and in the days to come! I pray that we are able to partner together as Holy Spirit leads to do wonderful things for His kingdom with Christian Entrepreneurs!

Blessings in HIM,

Karen”

  • Over 20 years ago, my young husband Tim died after a four-year battle with three different cancers when our children were only seven, six, and four years old.
  • About a week and a half ago, one of our members was put in the hospital for pneumonia. You can imagine while she is fighting cancer, that a bout of pneumonia is far from just a “bout” and can be very dangerous – “life-alteringly” dangerous.
  • Last week, one of our members discovered that her husband had molested one of her children. Her life, his life, the lives of their children, and the lives of so many others close to them have just been turned upside down.
  • The week before that, one of our members dropped everything and flew to her father’s side for an endless stream of tests and doctor visits to plan a course of action against one of the most rare and debilitating forms of cancer known.
  • Last year, one of our members was headed overseas to minister to others – a dream come true, dashed when her father had a stroke and all of her plans were canceled and altered.

All of this to say, it’s well and good to focus as we are doing in our organizations on Entrepreneur Wellness for the year 2020! It’s a great idea to work through spiritual wellness, physical wellness, emotional wellness, occupational wellness, intellectual wellness, environmental wellness, and social wellness one month at a time as we have planned to do!

But let’s be honest…

When calamities like this strike that threaten our well-being in all of these areas in life-altering ways, there is no way that things feel “well!”

And that’s what I want to talk about today.

Because of who God is, in the midst of trials like these, in the midst of heartbreak, the inability to breathe without help, the concerns of how to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm, the fear of what the future holds, the reminder that our lives are finite – by God’s Design – it is well!

It is Well, When It is NOT Well!

How do we know?

It is Well – He Promises Us

We know it is well because He promises in His Word that all things work together for good, for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Romans 8 (ESV)

It is Well – Testimonies Abound

We know it is well because there are testimonies throughout His Word and in our own lives of God‘s presence and comfort and protection and provision during times of trial like these over and over and over again – in spite of us!

  • Every year for 4 years, God has comforted Dr. Tony and He will continue to do so! It’s no surprise that her ministry has grown by leaps and bounds – lives are being blessed every day!
  • My children and I are doing well and God has provided for us in ways we never imagined. I have been blessed with the privilege of working with grieving and traumatized families for over 20 years!
  • Our friend came home from the hospital yesterday and is on the mend!
  • Legal protections are already in place and we are praying our friend through. Her faith is strong and she is blessed with a godly support system.
  • A medical plan of action to fight this rare sarcoma is underway.
  • Pa is doing much better than expected and God has provided for EVERY need along the way and “then some!”

It is Well – He Gives Us Confidence

It’s no surprise that I am reading through Hebrews in preparation for a week-long retreat without any connection with the outside world, without any technology, that starts tomorrow! We know it is well because in Hebrews God teaches that Christ is our confidence!

…but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. Hebrews 3:6

For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Hebrews 3:14

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

[ The Full Assurance of Faith ] Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, Hebrews 10:19

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. Hebrews 10:35

It is Well – He Promises us Reins to Reign!

It’s no surprise that I am reading through Proverbs with one of our members day by day until we are done! It’s no surprise that although I rarely do this, I am reading through the book of Proverbs using The Passion Translation! We know it is well because in Proverbs, in the midst of all of the precepts and promises that we will live long and prosper if we heed His Words of Wisdom and wise instruction, much to my delight and surprise, His words are also full of promises that He will give us the “reins to reign no matter what our circumstances bring today, tomorrow, every day!

We talked about CHAYIL (Greek) at the #2019NACWEConference and learned that we are “ARMY” strong, mighty, efficient, wealthy, and able,… to do all God has called us to do as Christian Entrepreneurs!

We will talk about REIGNing (Hebrew) at the #2020NACWEConference – God is so good!

It is Well – How is it Well?

Will you share with your fellow Christian entrepreneurs a time that God has given you confidence that it is well, even in the midst of your circumstances and allowed you to reign?

Will you pray diligently for those listed above and for others whose well-being seems threatened at this very moment?

My prayer:

Father God – Our Protector – Help us feel Your Presence and protect us from harm. Remind us that It is Well, even when it does NOT feel well because of who You are!

Jesus – Intercede for us even when we are so distraught that we cannot utter words. Remind us that It is Well, even when it does NOT feel well because of who You are!

Holy Spirit – Comfort us in all our troubles. Remind us that It is Well, even when it does NOT feel well because of who You are!

Amen
