Journal for Clarity & Focus in All Dimensions
Welcome to the What Are You Writing For? And what are you waiting for! Series © in the Confident to Write Alliance ©
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23, NASB
You are wonderfully made! God cares about you – spirit, soul and body. Take care of yourself so you can serve Him and those He has placed before you.

As Christian women entrepreneurs, writing can be a powerful tool for your personal benefit and growth. Personal writing practices can enhance both spiritual growth and entrepreneurial success by fostering self-awareness while grounding your decisions in your faith!
Last week, we talked about writing to receive blessings from the Lord.
This week, let’s dive into writing for personal clarity and focus from the Lord. I don’t know about you, but I don’t make much progress (even when I feel confident in my calling from the Lord) when I can’t focus and don’t have a clear direction for the work God has called me to.
God promises to provide guidance in your life and work/calling. James 1:5 encourages you to ask for wisdom, “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith…” You are encouraged to trust Him (Proverbs 3:5–6); He promises to instruct and teach you (Psalm 32:8); the Lord promises to show you the way (Isaiah 30:21); He promises peace when you present your requests to him – peace that transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:6–7); and He promises to light your way (Psalm 119:105).
Reflect on these verses as you journal your thoughts and prayers, trusting in God‘s promises for peace and clear direction on your journey.
Here are 7 Areas to Help You Journal for Clarity & Focus
[Here are my favorite 7 – for more Part 2] {LINK}
Using the BELIEFS Acrostic, ask the Lord for clarity and focus in all dimensions of wellness and areas of your life.
- Body – Ask the Lord for clarity and focus in the physical dimension of your life. Ask Him to guide you as you care for your body, recognizing your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. Prioritize your health so you can serve God and those He has placed before you fully. 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 states, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”
- Emotions – Ask the Lord for guidance and full concentration to help you understand and manage your emotions. Finding balance will help you maintain a joyful spirit as you follow the Lord in His calling – even amidst challenges. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
- Livelihood – Ask the Lord for insight and attentiveness in your life and work & service. Trust that God has placed you where you are for a purpose and seek His direction in fulfilling that calling. Colossians 3:23-24 demands, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”
- Intellect – Ask the Lord for understanding and focused emphasis for your personal learning and growth. Seek wisdom through His word that will enrich your soul – your mind, will and emotions. Proverbs 2:6 promises, “For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” [Notice the order of His words – He gives wisdom first!]
- Environment – Ask the Lord for wisdom and purpose on how to cultivate a nurturing environment around you – one that fosters growth surrounded by order and peace. You are to be good stewards of all God has entrusted to you as you manage His gifts and resources, whether they be your time, talents, treasures, or environment. Honor God through responsible stewardship. Genesis 2:15 and Psalm 24:1 emphasize God‘s ownership of creation and encourage you to respect and care for the environment as stewards of His creation. 1 Peter 4:10 reminds you to use your gifts and resources for the benefit of others, serving as a steward of God’s blessings. And Matthew 5:14-30 in The Parable of the Talents illustrates how each servant was entrusted with different amounts of money/talents by their master and expected to invest them wisely. He praises those who actively manage their resources. He praises you when you actively manage your God-given resources and are accountable in stewardship.
- Family/Friends – Ask the Lord for direction and priority to deepen relationships with family and friends and those He has placed before you. Cultivate connections that uplift everyone involved. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 teaches, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion…”
- Spiritual* – Ask the Lord for discernment and intentness to deepen your relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and study. James 4:8-10 encourages you, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. …let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”
Consistently seek God‘s guidance across these seven areas of your life as you journal each day!
